For anyone looking for a more 'painterly' approach to projects, Eileen Hull's scoreboard dies are the answer. Occasionally I like to paint items (I am the Queen of Spray Paint) and cardstock simply does not hold up. The scoreboard house held up under a layer of Gesso, 3 coats of acrylic paint, glitter glue and a thin coat of varnish to keep the glitter from becoming a permanent part of my house. When I travel to Pennsylvania one of the things I love to photograph are red barns. The red paint always has an amazing weather patina and I have never seen the same shade. I can imagine an entire winter village of holiday houses or something more arty...like a Jackson Pollack house, or a Van Gogh house, minus an ear. This die is limitless.
Sizzix supplies:
#65279; Sizzix Scoreboards Pro Die - House, 3D, by Eileen Hull
Sizzix 12x12 matboard, white
Sizzix Big Shot Pro die cutting machine
Supplies: Liquitex Gesso, Americana Acrylic paint, Alizarin Crimson and Antique White, Twinklets Diamond Dust, Martha Stewart Glitter Glue, Heidi Snapp Acrylic paint, Moss, Liquitex Modeling Paste, 1/2" flat brush, Making Memories light green brads, E6000 industrial glue, garland, Christmas tree button.
Instructions: Apply thin coat of gesso to entire house. Let dry completely. Apply at least three coats of red paint to house and vestibule (depending on saturation desired). Apply modeling paste to both large and small roof stippling with brush for a 'snowy' effect. Let modeling paste dry completely. Paint window sashes and door frame green. Paint roofs and front door antique white. Apply Diamond Dust to house and vestibule being very careful not to get the glitter where the pieces will have to be glued together. Glue scrap paper behind windows as 'panes'. Assemble house using light green brads. Glue the roofs on. Glue on garland, wreath and button. Apply thin coat of varnish to entire project.
Wow! This is amazing, T! I love the dimension and the whole snowy wondrousness of it.

Your little house reminds me of the old fashioned ornaments that my mother had. I was wondering what ever happened to them, now I know I can reproduce the look with your method! So Cute!!!

Tara, this is one of my favorites. Also like barns and houses minus ears :-) It does look like it has a sugar coating. So festive! Thanks for working with my die :-)

Using this die cut in lieu of making your own putz style houses from stratch is so much faster and easier. Once you add all your layers of paint and embellishments you have a sturdy piece of art that will last for many holidays to come- great job
